In a lot of ways it makes sense to simply promote King's current deputy, Paul Tucker.
While he's undoubtedly a strong candidate, Tucker's reputation suffered a severe blow when he failed to spot - and then act upon - the Libor manipulation scandal that made headlines in the summer.
Will that error cost him the job? Only time will tell.

He was in charge of the FSA when the Banks went Bust and responsible for their conduct, regulation etc. Why was he not sacked for not doing his job? Why did he not see what the banks were doing ie PPI miss selling, LIBOR fixing etc?
"he did gain political capital by criticising certain actions of the big banks". - AFTER THE EVENT - when they were found out!!
How can this man even be a candidate? He should be fined and barred from ever holding a job in finance.

Don't they have anyone capable in the Bank of England at the moment as the way i see it outsider would have to be trained to do the job and of course have to get new strings fitted so that the puppeteers in the government can pull his strings like the have been doing with Mervyn for the past few years
