'Jobs for 60,000' on homes project

More than 60,000 jobs could be created as part of plans to build more than 22,000 new homes
A scheme to build more than 22,000 new homes could see the creation of up to 60,000 jobs.
Plans for the project at Kent Thameside in Ebbsfleet were approved by the Government, three councils in Kent and developers Land Securities, the BBC said.
The first 1,500 of the 22,600 expected homes are earmarked for completion by 2020 at Eastern Quarry, with a further 3,000 homes due to be built by 2030/31.
More than £100m has been invested in the site by developers.
A lack of infrastructure delayed plans, but Kent County Council and Dartford and Gravesham councils have worked alongside the Department of Transport and Land Securities on improving transport links in the area.
Housing minister Grant Shapps told the BBC: "The Kent Thameside development - offering the opportunity for tens of thousands of new homes - has been stuck on the drawing board for a whole decade."
Kent County Council leader Paul Carter said: "We have real growth ambitions and this site signifies our intent to unlock the potential of the Thames Gateway."
