Preaching to the converted.
Forget it.
The people of this country are so conservative that anything less than a (draughty, cold, expensive) castle is considered some degree of failure.
I live in a cosy converted coach motor home (my land yacht), and the amount of folk who offer me sleeping accommodation when I visit them is astonishing.
They mean well, but they CANNOT offer me the high standard of comfort that I have myself, and I get to change my neighbours and view when I want to. I can wake up to views that a millionaire could not get with ALL their posh houses (unless of course, they too bought a motor home).
Besides, if you live unconventionally, you stand the danger of becoming unconventional in yourself, and we can't have that, can we ?.
Don't be individual, owe the banks LOADS of mortgage, and be "approved" of.
Stuff that.

Regarding the American Soldier Afghanistan family murders, as we are not allowed to comment under the actual article, I will comment here.
We should not be surprised at all. Our "authorities" pick unstable individuals with a desire to kill, train them, tool them up, then let them loose on the latest batch of other people that they disapprove of.
16 civilians killed by a lone nutter is justifiably disapproved of, wiping out a wedding party of 40+ civilians with an unmanned bomber is OK.
The difference ?.
The murderers at the top just ordered the killings, THEY did not actually pull the trigger so they CAN'T be guilty.
Damn them ALL to the hell they create for others.

Hiya Guys, Thought for a moment that it may have been a serious article, but that looks like a victorian seaside changing room, designed by a person who's had one too many hits on a opium pipe. Wouldn't it be nice though, if for once things were priced according to their actual value, you get people who spend years in college learning economics, and all it comes down to is what the market will bear, take a gander at petrol, gas, electric, food, grog, fags,are those items priced as per value, I don't think so, still while we have the biggest economy in the world, ( who happen to get their petrol at a preferred price) destabilizing areas of the middle east what chance have we got of an actual stable platform on which to rebuild our economy? Yes, but the problem with all of these properties is that they will all be "cash buyers only" as you can't get a mortgage on a houseboat, a park home, a chalet or a bus!
A nice, kooky idea for a story but it would have been helpful to have maybe included some proper houses or flats that someone could buy by getting a mortgage on! There must be something out there, surely...?

Gosh I am really dumb.....Houseboats, sheds and caravans! Of course that's the way to get on the property ladder...As a happy renter I'm far from pushing the line that you have to own bricks and mortar etc etc but buying a pikey caravan or a freezing boat that you can live in for 48 weeks of the year is not the answer if your dream is to own your own house!

Ken, you clearly never had to live in a WWII pre-fab if you think they were a good idea and if there are any surviving it's a national disgrace.
But you are right about modern pre-fabs and there are no EU restrictions on them. They are very popular in Europe and have been used in the UK, google BoKlok Gateshead Council.
The big problem is that in the UK the profit margins are too small to attract developers, the land they could be sited on would probably cost more than the buiding itself.
