Bansko in Bulgaria offers skiers the best value for money, says survey
British skiers should head east to get on the piste for the least, according to a price survey.
Bansko in Bulgaria offered the best value for money in a 10-resort survey of typical ski costs by Post Office Travel Money.
Kranjska Gora in Slovenia had the next best deals - far cheaper than resorts in Switzerland and North America.
Based on costs for a typical six-day ski break, including lift passes, ski school costs and food, the survey showed that costs in Bansko totalled £818, with Kranjska Gora costing £1,142.
In contrast, the same items in the Swiss ski resort of Nendaz were as high as £1,829, while at Winter Park in Colorado, United States, the costs were £1,879, although this represented a 31% drop on costs last year.
Bansko's prices were 17% cheaper than for 2010, while Ellmau in Austria offered the best-value family ski and boot hire in 2011.
Post Office Travel Money head Sarah Munro said: "This year's report revealed welcome news for cash-conscious family skiers. We found good examples of price cuts in most of the resorts surveyed - especially in North America.
"Prices are more competitive than before in the bargain hunter's resort of Bansko in Bulgaria and Switzerland is working hard to combat the negative impact of the poor exchange
