While it was originally scheduled for withdrawal a couple of years after 'D-Day', the beloved sixpence actually lasted until 1980 thanks to a hard-fought public campaign known as 'Save our Sixpence'.

Also known as the 'tanner', the sixpence would be worth roughly 28.8p today, according to the Royal Mint Museum.
